The Vontobel Foundation supports The LOOP from 2020 to 2025 with a contribution to the research consortium “StimuLOOP,” which aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by Parkinson's disease and stroke through personalized, precision gait training.
The LOOP Zurich is a medical center for translational research and precision medicine. It focuses on new approaches, improved diagnostics, and novel therapies for the benefit of both patients and society as a whole. The goal is the efficient transfer of scientific findings into medical practice for personalized healthcare.
The six founding institutions of The LOOP Zurich are the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich, the University Hospital Zurich, the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, the University Clinic Balgrist, and the Psychiatric University Clinic Zurich. The strengths of these Zurich institutions are combined in a joint research initiative at The LOOP Zurich, which brings together the best researchers from the fields of biomedicine, clinical research, and bioinformatics to conduct innovative research collaboratively.
Parkinson's disease and stroke lead to significant health impairments and substantial socioeconomic burdens for patients and healthcare systems worldwide. StimuLOOP is a research consortium that develops personalized neurorehabilitation methods for Parkinson's and post-stroke patients. Many of those affected suffer from gait disturbances or are at acute risk of falling. StimuLOOP aims to improve the quality of life of those affected through personalized gait training. The newly learned gait patterns are then permanently anchored by targeted neuromodulation during deep sleep.
"We want to help our patients get back on their feet quickly and safely despite having had a stroke or Parkinson's disease."
Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Luft, Co-Leader of StimuLOOP
"StimuLOOP brings together the best researchers in Switzerland. The consortium guarantees a subject-specific and interdisciplinary approach."
Prof. Dr. med. Giatgen Spinas, Board Member, Vontobel Foundation
